When Two becomes One: A sustainable bridal gown in a Intercultural Wedding

Marriage is about combining two families to become one, and when Ozge and Gurjit Bedi married bringing together Turkish and Indian culture it was a day fit for royalty.

Location, location, location seems to be the luck of Ozge’s life! She met her husband while dining out in a Russian restaurant in London, she was marrying in a wedding celebrating both Turkish and Indian culture and discovered our world of sustainable luxury bridalwear from walking around the Fulham area. At our chance meeting, for her Indian-Turkish wedding, Ozge knew she wanted a dress she could dance in and wanted a fun youthful silhouette and neckline.

For her made-to-measure gown of riches, Ozge wore Calathia, a stunning sweetheart neckline in a soft hemp silk gown with detachable ivory embroidered straps and a pearl edged lace and detachable bow train. To add to her bridal beauty, Ozge matched her gown with a bespoke Lily veil, altered to have embroidery at the front.

“The moment I put my dress on, the entire anxiety of the day ahead just disappeared. Then seeing my husband at the ceremony area and the way he looked at me in my dress is something I will never forget. And finally, I loved how our guests told me that they never saw such a unique wedding dress and that it was so me”.

WHERE DID YOU MEET

At a Russian restaurant in London

MOST MAGICAL MOMENT

Our surprise first dance

THE DRESS

It may sound cliché, but I knew immediately when I saw myself in the Calathia gown in the mirror. There’s something incredibly special about the natural colour and sheen of hemp fabric. In addition, I found that the simplicity (yet elegance) of the dress was very well complemented by the playful bow train on the back.

FAIRTRADE

I did not know anything on the topic; however, I’ve always liked wearing natural fabrics, therefore when I first came to meet with Sanyukta and tried on wedding dresses, I immediately knew that I’d go for a dress like this.

YOUR ADVICE FOR OTHER BRIDES

I’d advise everyone to keep in mind their own personality and style rather than trying to achieve someone else’s look and feel.
