Reflections on London Fashion Week AW26: Artistry, Advocacy, and 180 Strand
In a world full of large than life weddings, there is something heartwarming about a quaint wedding full of love and sentiment. Bringing new meaning to the ‘in sickness and in health’ vow, this week’s edition of Happy Brides, we’re thrilled to share the wedding of Valeriya and Arnas’ small civil ceremony.
After meeting in school and a spur of the moment proposal, this autumn Lithuanian wedding full of love, commitment and loyalty, was something straight out of a Nicholas Sparks novel. Using what the acting world refer to as ‘method’ in her approach to her wedding planning, Valeriya had no theme and let the personalities of herself and now husband play centre stage.
Valeriya came to us to create the wedding dress of her dreams. Knowing she was marrying in a simple ceremony, she wasn’t looking for a princess-esque gown, instead opting for a minimalist design, our speciality. After a session in our showroom with Creative Director Sanyukta Shrestha and falling in love with the majestically lightweight sustainably sourced silk materials we use, Valeriya knew she’d found the one.
For her semi-bespoke gown, Valeriya confidentially wore Tulip, a sleeveless bridal gown with a low back and organic lace with a hemp silk skirt. To provide some excess glamour Valeriya matched her gown with a bespoke back necklace.
“It felt natural, like a second skin – an embodiment of pure fabric, design and dignity”- Valeriya
WHERE DID YOU MEET
We met at college in Cambridge.
THE PROPOSAL
In a hospital. He was about to be taken into surgery and he proposed to me at the moment he realised I was always there for him.
THE DRESS
My wedding dress was made of pure silk and felt remarkably fresh and airy. My skin could definitely breathe freely in Sanyukta’s fabrics. I was also lucky enough to find a design that reflected my personality.
FAIRTRADE
I was not aware of eco-gowns before but I was always a sucker for quality fabrics that feel amazing on the skin. I wish more brand could match the quality of fabrics Sanyukta Shrestha exhibiting.
YOUR ADVICE FOR OTHER BRIDES
Listen to your body and to your mind. Go for whatever feels natural to you and no matter what others say. If you try on a dress and all you want in it is to stand up proud with your head up high, chances are, you’ve found the one.
P.S. We only live once and you will never be younger and more beautiful than you are now, don’t be afraid to show off that great body of yours.
