Reflections on London Fashion Week AW26: Artistry, Advocacy, and 180 Strand
Designer Sanyukta Shrestha research about conservation and she was struck by the incredibly lively colours and lovely shapes of endangered flowers which inspired her greatly and ultimately led her to design the 2017 ‘Enchanted Blooms’ collection.
The designer turned the Ixia viridiflora into a fashion forward jumpsuit featuring bamboo lace. The only place where the Ixia is still growing wild is in South Africa’s south-western cape where it originates. Environmental changes and the loss of even small areas of vital habitat made this flower almost extinct. There is little which can be done to help the Ixia viridiflora in the wild but by growing these striking flowers in gardens, one can play a vital role to ensure their continued existence.
