Sanyukta Shrestha revealed its ‘Enchanted Blooms’ 2017 collection and puts a different spin on “flower power”. This season’s designs were inspired by the natural beauty, form, delicacy and vibrant colours of endangered and rare flowers.
“When I researched about conservation I was struck by the incredibly lively colours and lovely shapes of endangered flowers which inspired me greatly and ultimately led me to design this collection. Flowers like the Middlemist Camellia are romantic while the Jade Vine is incredibly exotic and vibrant. –Sanyukta Shrestha
The collection features unique bridal attire made of eco-friendly fabrics like bamboo, hemp & organic silk in classic ivory, champagne and cream colours with intricate beading, delicate lace and dreamy tulle. Echoing the silhouettes of flowers, the collection includes whimsical full-length gowns, ethereal silk chiffon dresses, exquisite organic silk jumpsuits, fashion-forward two-pieces and edgy blazers providing a variety of options for brides to make a statement.
“Having a collection inspired by rare flowers perfectly reflects the uniqueness of all my brides. Every bride has her very own style and to me flowers are a constant reminder that just like every woman, a flower is unique and has its very own shape, character, beauty and imperfection.” – Sanyukta Shrestha
Remaining true to her design DNA, Sanyukta gives her signature vintage inspired silhouettes a contemporary twist. Majestic necklines and dramatic backs find the balance between daring and demure. Sanyukta’s decision to use natural/eco fibres in her collections underlines her commitment to environment and development focusing on ‘beauty with a conscience’.
The 2017 creations were inspired by different species which are endangered in their natural habitat. The Lapageria Rosea inspired a daring organic silk dress in the vibrant colour red while the designer turned the Ixia viridiflora into a fashion forward jumpsuit featuring bamboo lace. The Delphinium luteum’s shape and colour is echoed in a long yellow evening dress with rouched details. The Edelweiss inspired a long-sleeved two-piece bridal outfit while the Franklinia is the inspiration behind a delicate bamboo lace jumpsuit.
Nature never fails to amaze with its incredible splendour and uniqueness. However, many species on our beautiful planet are facing extinction. Unfortunately not a lot of people know that some plants they buy are endangered in their natural habitat. The designer is hoping to draw attention to all those beautiful flowers facing extinction. And by wearing one of these designs one does not only look stunning, feel comfortable and draw attention to the cause but also support the ethical beliefs of the brand which are sustainability, fair trade, women’s equality and the ethical workforce.
