A visionary pioneer of Circular Luxury, Sanyukta Shrestha is a multi-award-winning British-Nepalese designer whose ethically handcrafted, zero-waste creations have earned a global cult following. For over fifteen years, her eponymous brand has championed a “Beauty with a Conscience” philosophy, redefining high-end fashion by blending innovative eco-luxury with a profound, lifelong commitment to social responsibility, biodiversity, and environmental preservation.
Recognised by international media as “the dawn of the sustainable movement” and “the Greta of the Wedding World,” Shrestha made history in 2011 by launching her brand and introducing sustainability to the global bridal market. Her debut collection made out of ground breaking eco-friendly fibres such as nettle, hemp, soya, bamboo, milk, banana, and organic cotton—praised by Fashion TV and Vogue Sposa—earned her the Perfect Wedding ‘Best Newcomer’ Award and a special official reception from the UK’s Culture Minister. Her eco impact was further solidified when she created a groundbreaking sustainable couture gown upcycled from a 30-year-old newspaper. This creation was permanently preserved in the prestigious Fashion Museum in Bath (ranked by CNN as one of the world’s Top 10 fashion museums), making Shrestha the first designer of Nepali origin and the first sustainable bridal designer to enter its permanent archive. Her work stands alongside over 100,000 historic objects dating back to the 16th century—spanning from the Shakespearean era to modern-day world-class masterpieces by Dior and Alexander McQueen.
“Over twenty-five years ago, I had a vision of cruelty-free fashion that urged me to think deeply about the future of our planet, the protection of its rich biodiversity, and the individual impact we all make. I want people to understand that luxury and sustainability are not two separate realities—nor is there a Planet B.” — Sanyukta Shrestha
Rooted in a transparent, slow supply chain, each bespoke creation reflects hours of meticulous hand-weaving that honours 1,000-year-old Nepalese heritage. Partnering with certified Fair Trade organisations in Nepal, the brand ensures a staggering 50% of its textiles are crafted by women artisans in remote mountainous regions, directly empowering marginalised, homeless, and destitute women. This profound “giving back” philosophy was sparked at the dawn of her career in Nepal when Shrestha volunteered for the Women’s Rehabilitation Centre (WOREC) in Udayapur, using her fashion expertise to uplift vulnerable women through grassroots projects. Her ecological commitment deepened whilst volunteering for WWF Nepal, where witnessing the fashion industry’s impact on natural habitats inspired her to launch a pioneering Fur-Free Fashion Show to advocate for global biodiversity.
As a member of the British Fashion Council and a graduate of the London College of Fashion, Sanyukta’s career includes numerous accolades, including the Bridal Buyer Editor’s Choice Award and the PETA Luxury Vegan Wedding Award. An influential force on the global stage, her advocacy has taken her from London Fashion Week to the highest corridors of British policy. Celebrating her as a premier voice for the planet, she was felicitated on the international stage as an ‘Eco Warrior’ alongside world-class innovators, including the inventor of the QR Code and leadership from NASA and the World Design Organization. She was invited to 10 Downing Street by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to celebrate the historic 100 years of the UK-Nepal Friendship Treaty, alongside high-level economic invitations to the House of Lords. Her groundbreaking journey was captured globally in the broadcast of her documentary “Cohesion” on FashionTV, aired worldwide as part of “The Story Behind the World’s Best Designers,” and highlighted in a live global BBC broadcast with chief presenter Maryam Moshiri.
A celebrated sustainable icon, Sanyukta made history as the first Nepali designer to walk international red carpets, debuted eveningwear on Victoria’s Secret supermodel Candice Swanepoel, and regularly commands the red carpets of the Oscars, BAFTA, and Cannes. Today, the Sanyukta Shrestha brand stands as a premier destination where world-class innovation, timeless luxury, and ethical craftsmanship live beautifully under one roof.
