Sanyukta Shrestha’s 2017 ‘Enchanted Blooms’ collection is inspired by the natural beauty, form, delicacy and vibrant colours of endangered and rare flowers.
The Lapageria Rosea flower inspired a daring organic silk evening dress in the vibrant colour red. The Lapageria comes from South America and is the national flower of Chile. Unfortunately, the plant is now endangered in the wild, through over-collection and forest clearance. In the wild the plant is pollinated by hummingbirds.
Nature never fails to amaze with its incredible splendour and uniqueness. However, many species on our beautiful planet are facing extinction. Unfortunately not a lot of people know that some plants they buy are endangered in their natural habitat. The designer is hoping to draw attention to all those beautiful flowers facing extinction. And by wearing one of these designs one does not only look stunning, feel comfortable and draw attention to the cause but also support the ethical beliefs of the brand which are sustainability, fair trade, women’s equality and the ethical workforce.
