Our creative director Sanyukta Shrestha was born and raised in Nepal where the Dashain festival is a very significant part of its rich culture and therefore holds a truly special place in the heart of Sanyukta. Dashain is more than just the most important festival of the year in Nepal. It is all about spending time together with your family and loved ones. During the important festivities elder Nepali put Tika and Jamara on the forehead of younger members of the family to award them special blessings. Without the Tika and the Jamara, Dashain wouldn’t feel the same. One could describe it as celebrating Christmas without a Christmas tree. Both, the red Tika and yellow-green Jamara play an essential role as it bestows good fortune and health upon the wearer. Tika and Jamara are propitious gifts of the goddess Nawa Durga whoes victory over the demon Mahishasur.
This year marks an exceptional occasion for Sanyukta and her family as it is her daughter’s first Dashain. Sanyukta will be celebrating this special event with her beloved husband, baby girl, brothers and sister.
For me, Dashain is about the feeling of togetherness and celebrating with my beloved family. I have great memories and I am overly happy that I will celebrate with my daughter for the first time and start teaching her about the importance of this occasion. Dashain is a happy and joyous event and from the bottom of my heart, I hope my fellow Nepali can celebrate despite the havoc Nepal has to endure due to the devastating earthquakes and current scarcity of fuel. – Sanyukta
Happy Dashain from Sanyukta Shresta & Team!
